Wrapping up our ‘Music in 2018’ series, we’ve handed it over to Brooklyn-based artist Brian Cid. Within a relatively short time, Cid has exploded onto the scene with releases on Balance Music, Supernature, Lost & Found, and of course his very own illustrious label – Endangered. For those who have encountered the steadfast musician, his success becomes less surprising. Not only is Cid one of the hardest working and dedicated artists in the scene, he’s also a deeply reflective soul. Absorbed by his thoughts on music, life and his next move, Brian Cid continues to inspire all those around him. His most recent accomplishment includes the release of his album Meteorite Man on Balance Music, a three year-long project in the making. Yes, 2018 was another outstanding year for Cid, and today he shares with us his feelings on music and the state of the industry.

The most memorable moment I had in the studio this year was…

Finishing my album Meteorite Man after three years of work. I was in LA giving the last touches and giving it a final listen. What an amazing feeling it was. I felt excited and intrigued. Curious what people were going to think of it.

The biggest challenge I saw within the electronic music industry in 2018 was…

Seeing friends struggle to find balance in life between a healthy lifestyle and the parties.

Discuss a world event from 2018 that affected you on an emotional, spiritual or physical level.

It affected me to travel to places like Jordan and Bosnia and see how the culture has suffered due to political restrictions upon it’s citizens. It hurts me to see people just wanting to have fun and not being able to be free. My album track “Amman Dolore” is about this specifically.

[The biggest challenge I saw within the electronic music industry in 2018 was…] seeing friends struggle to find balance in life between a healthy lifestyle and the parties.

In 2018, I feel music helped people to…

Heal, to feel love, to unite and pour out bottled energy. To be free.

The biggest question that has been on my mind lately is…

How can I keep learning to get to a powerful mental state where my emotions get the least affected, keeping myself in a peaceful place where compassion and our true being reigns?
