Before we had a chance to catch our breath, German techno mastermind Felix Kröcher has already released another killer EP. Released on Italian-based label, Deeperfect, Catena is an EP crafted perfectly for the late club nights we all know and love.
It’s no wonder this EP fits so perfectly with Deeperfect Records. Working alongside the label’s boss Stefano Noferini, Felix is in incredibly talented company. One of the most respected labels in the dance music scene, standout names such as ME & Her, along with Wally Lopez, call Deeperfect Records home.
Kicking off this EP is the title track, “Catena”. Coming in with an insanely heavy bassline, the beat is simple while coming at you with authoritative, driving percussion. One by one, each sound marks their place within the track, allowing you to simply close your eyes and become transfixed. Whether it’s 5AM and you’re just not ready to go home, or sitting at home working away – Felix makes sure to lock you in.
Next up, and coming at you with a different energy, “Stars” lands on the tech-house scale with dynamic, groovy details. A very soothing track, “Stars” lifts you up with a steady tempo. Distant female vocals enchant this song, creating an exhilarating break before the bass kicks in. At 4:05, you’re almost entering an entirely different dimension, as the record introduces a heavier groove that is more than welcome in our ears.
Giving us more than we bargained for, this EP also comes with two remixes. First, is “Catena (Wigbat Remix),” taking us further into its depths with a strong bass line. Fellow German producer, Wigbert, instills a minimal touch to the track while staying true to the nature of the original. High notes captivate your mind, making this trip one you’re happy to be lost on.
The second remix, “Stars (Umberto Pagliaroli Remix)” is an especially interesting take on the original, adding funky, wild drums with a tribal twist. You can see the Italian influences Umberto Pagliaroli places seamlessly in this track, resulting in a compelling remix.
With Catena, Felix has placed himself firmly on our radar. We highly recommend you appreciate the music for yourself here:
